Disabling Windows DEP (Data Execution Prevention)

For Riva installations that use the Novell Windows client and Novell GroupWise client, Data Execution Prevention (DEP) should be disabled.

Disable Data Execution Prevention (DEP) completely  (Windows 2008)

  1. Open a Command Prompt using Run as Administrator or disable UAC.

  2. Execute the following command:
    bcdedit.exe /set nx AlwaysOff

  3. Restart the Windows system.

Confirm that DEP has been disabled

To confirm that DEP has been disabled:

  1. Select Start, and right-click Computer.

  2. Under Tasks, select Advanced system settings.

  3. In the System Properties window, in the Advanced tab, in the Performance section, select Settings.

  4. In the Performance Options window, select the Data Execution Prevention tab.

  5. Ensure that the DEP options are greyed out.

  6. Close the Performance OptionsSystem Properties, and System windows.
