Legacy Exchange Online Token Deprecation – Impact on Riva Insight

Overview

Microsoft has announced that it will disable Legacy Exchange Online tokens in February 2025.

What Are Legacy Exchange Online Tokens?

Legacy Exchange Online tokens are outdated authentication tokens used by Outlook add-ins to access Exchange Online resources. These tokens rely on older authentication methods and are being deprecated in favor of more secure, modern authentication standards.

How Does This Impact Riva?

Riva Sync: No impact.
Riva Insight: You will be impacted if your Add-in is using EWS/REST for Exchange Online access. Note, that this impacts the Web Add-in. 

What Actions Should You Take?

  • Riva Cloud Insight: No action is required. All clients have already been upgraded to use the Graph API.
  • On-Premises Riva Insight: Follow these steps to verify and update your API:
    1. Check Your Current API
      1. Open the Insight panel and navigate to About Riva Insight.
      2. Look for Exchange Data API—this will indicate the API currently in use.
    2. If Using EWS
      1. You will need to transition to a new Graph application in Entra and install an updated manifest.
      2. Contact the Riva Success team for assistance with this process.
