Prepare Infor CRM (Formerly Saleslogix) For Riva

  • Updated

Riva On-Premise supports data integration to Infor CRM (latest releases) and Saleslogix CRM 7.5 and higher versions. This article describes how to prepare an Infor CRM or Saleslogix system and the Riva server, to support a Riva impersonation connection to the CRM.

To prepare Infor CRM (Saleslogix) for Riva:

  1. Prepare the Infor CRM (Saleslogix) server.
  2. Prepare the host Windows system and Install the Infor CRM (SaleLogix) native client.
  3. Prepare the Riva connection account in Infor CRM (Saleslogix).
  4. Prepare the target user accounts in Infor CRM (Saleslogix).
  5. Gather information required for creating the Riva Infor CRM (Saleslogix) connection.

Step 1: Prepare the Infor CRM (Saleslogix) Server

To prepare the server:

  1. Required: Install Infor CRM (latest release) or Saleslogix server 7.0 and higher.

  2. Optional, but recommended: Install and configure the Web services client to support the Riva ConnectBar.

Step 2: Prepare the Host Windows System

The Riva server can be installed on any Windows system that meets the system requirements.

Note: Installing Riva on a Windows server hosting the Saleslogix server is not recommended.

Install and test the Infor CRM (Saleslogix) client

The Riva server must use the native Infor CRM (Saleslogix) client to connect to the CRM system. Riva cannot use the web services client for the Riva connection to Infor CRM (Saleslogix).

To install the client on the Windows system that will host the Riva server:

  1. Install an Infor CRM (Saleslogix) Client. The Saleslogix Client OLE DB Provider must match the version of the CRM system.

  2. Install the SQL Server Native Client. It must match the version of the SQL server installed on the CRM server.

  3. Log in to the CRM by using the credentials of a CRM admin user.

  4. Log in to the CRM by using the credentials of a normal CRM user.

Infor CRM (Saleslogix) web client

When Riva syncs contacts, opportunities, cases, etc. to the email system from Infor CRM (Saleslogix), those items can contain URL links to corresponding items in the CRM. If a user selects one of those links, Riva attempts to open the item in the Infor CRM (Saleslogix) web client.

If the Infor CRM (Saleslogix) web client was installed on the CRM server, open a browser in the Windows system that will host Riva. Access the Infor CRM (Saleslogix) web client, and log in as an admin account and as a normal user.

Step 3: Prepare the Riva Connection Account in Infor CRM (Saleslogix)

The Riva connection to the target CRM must be configured to use the credentials of an administrator-level account. For Infor CRM (Saleslogix), choose one of the following options:

  • use an existing account assigned to the Administrator role, or
  • create an account in Infor CRM (Saleslogix) for Riva, for example, Riva or rivasvc, and assign it to the Administrator role.

The administrator account provides the privileges necessary to impersonate each target user and make the necessary changes to records in the CRM for each target user.

Step 4: Prepare the Target User Accounts in Infor CRM (Saleslogix)

To prepare target users in Infor CRM (Saleslogix):

  1. Confirm that target email and CRM users will be matched.

  2. Ensure that CRM permissions are assigned to the target user in Infor CRM (Saleslogix).

How Riva matches email and Infor CRM (Saleslogix) users

Riva will use the credentials of the admin user configured in the Riva connection to Infor CRM (Saleslogix) to impersonate (gain admin access) each target user's CRM account. For Infor CRM (Saleslogix), Riva supports matching the target email user to the corresponding CRM user by using one of two methods. Ensure that one of the following conditions is true for each target user:

  • The user name values match. For example, for bob@mycompany.com, ensure that the email user name "Bobmatches the Saleslogix user name "Bob", or

  • If the user names do not match, ensure that the email address value in the CRM user account matches the Primary SMTP Reply-to value assigned to the user's email account. For example, "bob@mycompany.com" is the same in both the CRM and email system. Ensure that for each user, the email address values from the email systems and the corresponding CRM user are identical.

Enable sufficient access permissions for Infor CRM (Saleslogix) users

The Riva connection to Infor CRM uses the Enterprise Impersonation Model: when Riva creates new items in the CRM, it assigns ownership to the "target user". Because Riva is now acting on behalf of the target user, all audit fields in the CRM record the target user as the user who created and modified the item. Riva uses the permissions of the CRM target user to create and modify items and data in the CRM.

If the access permissions defined for the target user are not sufficient, the Riva server displays Access denied errors for each data change it tries to synchronize. Ensure that for each target user, permissions are assigned to create, modify, delete, import, and export datatypes that Riva will attempt to sync for that user.

Step 5: Gather Information Required for Creating the Riva Infor CRM (Saleslogix) Connection

Gather the following information:

  • The SERVER and SERVER ALIAS names.
  • The Saleslogix admin account and passwords.
  • Optional: The http:// or https:// website link to log in to the Saleslogix WebClient.
  • The Saleslogix username and password for the Riva connection account.

That information will be required when you create the Riva connection to the Infor CRM or Saleslogix system.
