Outlook: Which Riva Insight Outlook Add-in Is for You?

In Riva, the Insight panel and Track in CRM support two types of add-ins for Outlook:

  • Outlook Web add-in.
  • Windows add-in.
Due to Microsoft moving away from Windows (COM based) Add-ins, the Outlook Web Add-in should be used for all environments using Microsoft 365/Microsoft Online as the mail server.

The new version of Outlook for mobile browsers no longer supports access to add-ins, as per a Jan. 24, 2020, announcement at https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/outlook-blog/outlook-on-your-mobile-browser-is-being-upgraded/ba-p/1125816.

Installation
Need to install software on client machines or devices.
NOTE: The Windows Add-in is installed per-machine, not per user. Installing the Windows Add-in in a user folder is NOT supported.

Can be centrally managed and enabled add-in for the entire organization, user groups, or individuals.

The add-in follows you wherever you go. Add the add-in to your mailbox once, and it will be available on any supported Outlook client you use, including Outlook for Windows, Outlook for Mac, native Android Outlook app, and Outlook on the Web (browser).

Notes:

  1. When executing on mobile iOS or Android devices, Outlook supports existing mail objects (not available when composing a new email or meeting).
  2. When using the Web add-in, Riva Insight does not appear in the main calendar. To see Riva Insight, open a calendar item. This is not a Riva limitation. It is a Microsoft limitation with web add-ins in general.
