When, by Default, Are the Colours of Riva-Generated Categories Synced to Exchange?

The category colours of Riva-generated categories are configured in the sync policy.

When a user's Exchange mailbox account is initialized, the colour is synced to the Master Category List.

After that, the default behaviour depends on the version of Riva.

In Riva 2.4.47 or higher, by default, the sync never resets the category colours in the Master Category List.

Note: In effect, the users can permanently change those colours. It is possible, though, to override the default and prevent the users from permanently changing the colours.

In Riva 2.4.46 or earlier, by default, once every 24 hours, the sync resets the category colours in the Master Category List to match the settings in the sync policy.

Note: In effect, the default behaviour overwrites user-preferred colour settings. But, in Riva 2.4.24 through 2.4.46, it is possible to override the default and allow the users to set their own category colours.

Procedures:
- Allow the users to change the colours of Riva-generated categories.
- Prevent the users from permanently changing the colours.
Allow the Users to Change the Colour of any Riva-Generated Category
Riva 2.4.47 or higher: To allow all users to change the colour of Riva-generated categories, including custom categories:
By default, all users are allowed to change the category colours. To double-check that the permission has not been withdrawn, see Allow users to change the colour of Riva-synced custom categories.
Riva 2.4.24 through 2.4.46: To allow all or selected users to change the colour of Riva-generated categories:

Apply the following advanced option to the sync policy or selected users:
Sync.Ex.OnlySetCategoryColorOnNewItems = True

Save the policy and restart the service.
Result: The Master Category List of all or the selected users is no longer updated when the colour setting is modified in the sync policy. in effect, the users in question are allowed to change the colour of the Riva-generated categories in Outlook.
Prevent the Users from Permanently Changing the Riva-Generated Category Colours
Riva 2.4.47 or higher: To prevent all users from permanently changing the colour of Riva-generated categories, including custom categories:

Under the list box, clear the Allow users to change color check box.

Select OK.

Save the policy and restart the service.
Result: The Master Category List of all users is updated with the new colour settings immediately. Afterward, every 24 hours, any changes made to the colour settings are synced to the Master Category List of the users. In effect, if a user changes the colour of any Riva-generated category, the change is overridden within 24 hours and the colour is reset to the colour that is configured in the sync policy.
Riva 2.4.24 through 2.4.46: To prevent all or selected users from permanently changing the colour of Riva-generated categories:

Apply the following advanced option to the sync policy or selected users:
Sync.Ex.OnlySetCategoryColorOnNewItems = False

Save the policy and restart the service.
Result: The Master Category List of all or the selected users is updated with the new colour settings immediately. Afterward, every 24 hours, any changes made to the colour settings are synced to the Master Category List of those users. In effect, if a user changes the colour of any Riva-generated category, the change is overridden within 24 hours and the colour is reset to the colour that is configured in the sync policy.
